Please Spay and Neuter!
Please spay or neuter your pets….
The number of pets without homes increases every year. Without control the numbers will continue to rise. Breeding a pet only adds to the problem, many of the puppies and kittens from a litter will end up in a shelter like the one around the corner from you. Some types are more likely to be bred than others, too often people breed for purely selfish reasons. Some of these are – “I wanted my pet/children/self to experience the miracle of birth”, or “I wanted to make money from the sale of the puppies”, and “I wanted a purebred”. What happens to these animals afterwards? No one is getting rich from the sale of puppies or kittens, and you can find a purebred animal in a shelter if you take the time to look.
An un-spayed female dog can produce more than 4000 puppies over the course of her life. Many of these puppies go on to homes where they are also allowed to reproduce, or homes where people are unaware of the long term affects breeding animals can have on the increasing pet population. Many other puppies are considered accidents and are often abandoned, or neglected to the point of a slow and horrible death. Current estimates are that only 1 in 9 puppies born in the US will end up in a permanent home.
Please, help control the number of abandoned animals, spay or neuter. It is also healthier for your pet. If you can’t afford it, there are many organizations which exist to assist either for free, or a reduced rate. Call your local shelter or veterinarian and ask.
